Race Scoring

The Commodores' Cup, first competed in 1998, is a series of
team races between the Boston, Corinthian and Eastern Yacht
Clubs. The handsome trophy for the event was given by William C.
("Twig") Burke III of the Boston and Eastern Yacht Clubs. Three
crews of four sailors that traditionally include Flag Officers
from each club, compete in Sonars. This year the event will be
managed by the Boston Yacht Club. Two club teams race against
each other in a round robin format, and two round robins
complete the regatta. The races are short, typically half mile
weather legs with a windward-leeward-windward course. Team
tactics are key to success. On-water umpiring keeps things
moving and reduces the need for formal protest hearings after
the race. The race committee includes personnel from each club.
The BYC skippers are chosen on their performance in a trial
series earlier in the Winter Sailing Program.
