Entry fees for this regatta are
automatically covered by entry into the full season of the
Boston Yacht Club Wednesday Evening Races. See paragraph 4
below
1. Introduction: One ocean race using either portable or
government marks as appropriate for the weather conditions. This
race is a qualifier for the Salem Bay Grand Slam Trophy. There
will be PHRF Racing and PHRF Cruising Divisions and if three (3)
or more register, for IRC Racing and Doublehanded PHRF Racing.
Yachts may compete in either the PHRF Racing Division or the IRC
Division, or in both.
2. Check-in Before the Start: All boats must check-in
with the Race Committee using VHF channel 72 before the first
Warning Signal of the day.
3. Rules: The Mass Bay Sailing Association Notice of Race
and General Sailing Instructions (GSI), the ISAF Special
Regulations for Offshore Racing (ORC) for Category 4 races,
except as any of these are changed by this Event Sailing
Instructions (ESI). IRC yachts will be governed by IRC Parts 1,
2 and 3. Class breaks for all divisions will be in accordance
the Mass Bay Sailing Handbook. IRC Class breaks will be in
accordance with equivalent PHRF handicaps (e.g. PHRF-A and IRC-A
will sail together).
4. Entries: Entries should be submitted before
1800 hrs on September 12, together with the appropriate fee and
current PHRF NE rating certificate to: BYC Race Committee, 1
Front Street, Marblehead MA, 01945. (Contact Geoff Smith 508
358-7542). Boats registered in the full BYC Wednesday Evening
Series and entering this race shall register their intention and
division by email to: gesmith1000@comcast.net.
Fees: $50 less discounts of $5 for USSA members and $5
for MBSA members.
Fees are not required for Wednesday Evening Full Season
Racers
5. Notice to Competitors: Notices to competitors
will be posted on the official notice board located near the BYC
front desk. The scratch list will be posted on the official
notice board at 0830 hrs on Saturday September 13.
6. Changes to Sailing Instructions: Any change to
the sailing instructions will be posted before 0830 hrs on the
day it is to take effect, except that any change to the schedule
of races will be posted by 2100 hrs on the day before it will
take effect.
7. Signals Made Ashore: Signals made ashore will be
displayed from the yardarm of the BYC flagstaff.
8. Schedule of Races:
Saturday, September 13: One race is scheduled. The Warning
Signal will be made at 1100 hrs.
9. Class Flags: Classes shall be in accordance
with the MBSA class splits. All entries shall fly the
appropriate class flag from their back stay. IRC entries will
also fly code flag "H".
10. Racing Area: The starting area will be in the
vicinity of Tinkers Rock Gong, Mark "D"; List A of the Mass Bay
Handbook, unless the Race Committee Signal Boat "Carl Alberg"
displays Code Flag "L" and proceeds elsewhere.
12. Marks: Marks shall be in accordance with MBSA List A
and List B. Portable marks will be orange tetrahedrons.
13. The Start: Races will be started in accordance with
Paragraph 14 of the GSI. The time interval between the start of
one class and the warning signal for the subsequent class will
be at least one minute. Any class with less than three entries
may be combined with another class for a combined start. Classes
will be scored independently
14. Recalls: Recalls will be in accordance with
RRS 29. The Race Committee will attempt to hail OCS boats on VHF
channel 72. Failure to hail, hail of some but not all, or
untimely hail of OCS starters shall not be grounds for redress.
This changes RRS 62.1(a).
15. Time Limit: Three hours after the start of
each class. The Race Committee may extend the time limit, and
will make such announcement VHF channel 72.
16. Scoring: The Low Point scoring system, RRS Appendix
A, will apply with ¾ point for first place.
17. Prizes: The James R. Hodder Trophy will be awarded
for first place in Class PHRF-A. For each class in each
division, trophies for the first and second place presented
after the races. Third place trophies will also be awarded for
any class with ten or more entries.
18. Social Activities: After the race there will
be a social get-together with entertainment, chowder and hot
dogs for all Skippers their crew and guests. Yardarm facilities
(bathrooms, showers, changing areas) are available to all
participating sailors prior to boarding their boats and after
the race.
