1.
Invitation:
The Boston Yacht Club as the Organizing Authority and
challenging host extends this invitation to compete in the
2008 Jackson Cup Team Races on April 12 and 13, 2008.
The event format will be one or more round robins with
possible championship rounds. There will be a maximum of 8
teams. Final format details will be provided at the
Skipper’s Meeting.
2.
Boats: The event will be sailed in Sonar class
boats, which will be provided by the Boston Yacht Club. All
equipment supplied must remain on board. No equipment may be
taken on board except personal flotation gear, clothing,
snack food and beverages, tape, ring dings, cotter pins,
clevis pins, pencils, knives, and small pieces of yarn or
string. No alteration may be made to the boats or rigging,
including the partner blocks, without the express permission
of the PRO. Spinnakers will not be used and spinnaker and
whisker poles are not allowed. Complete requirements and
assignments will be provided in the Sailing Instructions.
3.
Site and Courses: Racing will be conducted on
a starting line in Marblehead Harbor. Course details will be
provided at the Skipper’s meeting.
4.
Skipper’s Meeting:
The Skippers meeting, boat drawing and distribution of
Sailing Instructions will be on Saturday April 12 at 0800
hrs. Due to space limitations it may be necessary to limit
meeting attendance to no more than 3 persons per team.
5.
Rules:
This regatta will be governed by the 2005 – 2008 Racing
Rules of Sailing (RRS), including Appendix D (Team Racing
Rules), this Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions,
except as any of these are altered by the Sailing
Instructions. The event is subject to the Advertising
restrictions defined in ISAF Regulation 20, Advertising
Code, Category A and ISAF Regulation 21, Anti-Doping. All
races will be umpired.
6.
Eligibility: Each Club team will consist of 3
boats
a.
The
number of crew in each boat shall be 4 people (including the
skipper) in all races.
b.
All
crew members must be members of the yacht club they
represent. However substitutions who are not team club
members may be made at the discretion of the Principal Race
Officer.
c.
Each
skipper must be a member of US Sailing at the time of the
event
Marine
professionals may compete provided that they are regular
members, in good standing for at least one year, of the club
they represent.

8.
Scoring:
Each race will be scored in accordance with RRS
Appendix D3. The series scores will be in accordance with
RRS Appendix D4.
9.
Lunches and Dinner:
Lunch
will be
provided
on Saturday and Sunday for all crewmembers of each team.
Dinner on Saturday night will be provided free of
charge to all crewmembers of each team. Additional
dinners may be purchased at $35.00 per person.
10.
Entry Deadlines, Fees and Damage Deposit:
The
deadline for receipt of entries is March 21 2008. The entry
fee is US $1000.00 per team plus a refundable damage deposit
of $1,500 (US) per team.
11.
Insurance:
Boston
Yacht Club Insurance policies will cover all borrowed boats
during the regatta. The refundable damage deposit will be
used as necessary to cover cost of repairs up to the
insurance deductible limit. Unused monies from the damage
deposit will be returned by May 9, 2008.
Excess
Protection & Indemnity (P & I) Insurance is also available
for skippers or helmsmen if desired.
12.
Parking:
Each
team will be assigned parking space at the Boston YC for
three vehicles. Only vehicles with BYC parking stickers and
vehicles displaying BYC hotel room guest cards will be
permitted in the BYC parking area.
14.
Prizes:
The
of name the winning yacht club will be inscribed on the
Jackson Cup Trophy and a suitable keeper trophy will also be
presented.
