Opening Day 2009

Boston Yacht Club
Opening Day Ceremony
Saturday May 16, 2009

Please note Opening Day events start at 9:20am this year

The opening day ceremonies mark the beginning of another season enjoying all the amenities our club has to offer. This year following our opening day activities, we will have the added pleasure of Halsey Hereshoff demonstrating his newest design remote controlled model yacht off our dock. This 54 inch model is based upon the famous Herreshoff design, NEWPORT 30. It will be first launched on Redd’s Pond as part of the AMYA M) Class National Championship on May 15-17. The (M) class has the oldest design lineage of today. It will be the first time that this championship regatta will be held at Redd’s Pond, where organized model boat racing began back in 1892. Halsey will also be the guest speaker at the regatta dinner Saturday night, hosted at the Boston Yacht Club. Any member wishing to attend this dinner and listen to Halsey’s presentation are welcome. Contact Suzie Travers for all the details. I encourage you all to make your way down to Redd’s Pond to witness this great event.
